In you, dear animals...

We see ourselves.

Yeah, I have a toddler, I spend a lo of time at zoos.

So, here's a question. We see ourselves in animals. Fine. But why are we so crazy for dinosaurs? What do we see there exactly?

What? Dinosaurs are awesome. They're the gigantic, fearsome, strong creatures that we would like to be if we weren't parked in front of our computers all day.

So I take it that the cute animal moratorium has been lifted??

Yes, we do see them as ourselves, which IMO is a problem.

(See Grizzly Man, Open Water, and the coyote across my street.)

Another bonus point for dinosaurs: They're extinct so we don't have to worry about blundering into piles of brachiosaurus poo.

Humans, the other white meat.

I don't intend to set up camp in the Grizzly Maze (where Timothy Treadwell said pretty clearly he could be killed by bears at any time), and I don't intend to be lost at sea in shark infested waters. But why do you hold up these movies as Exhibit A and B for why it's a "problem" to see similarities between humans and other animals?

As far as a coyote across your street, the coyotes around here only attack humans when they're rabid. Otherwise they're not even seen. Human predators are a far bigger problem.
