A sad day? Don't they know it's Fitzmas?

"[O]ur gloomy pols were keening as though a great leader had fallen or an important factory had closed..."

Pols say it was a sad day because they realize it might well of been them, not Blago, being awakened before sunrise to be arrested.

I agree that it's great that the Feds can go after wicked crooked pols -- there's no shortage of targets. I hope the charges, if true, stick like tack cloth.

wow Beth! I saw where it had snowed in Houston. Merry Christmas indeed.

So what you're saying, then, Beth, is that the city is shut down.

Man -- 1/8 mile visibility with heavy snow at the airport. How cool is that!

I wish! But so far, we haven't called off exams. I'm plotting a route that doesn't take me over any bridges or overpasses. I will have to go under one, so I'll be prepared to slide a little there.

The first time I remember snow in New Orleans was in the 1980s. I was frolicking and playing outside, assuming I had a snow day from work at the newspaper. But a big orange newspaper delivery van pulled up and a guy yelled "Get in!" It was full of a bunch of night shift suckers, and he delivered us right to the front door.

Merry Christmas, SteveR!

Well, if we don't want to talk about Illinois politics, and it's getting harder to point to the functioning of Sarah Palin's innards and say, "Look over there!" we can always talk about the weather.

The forecast is for a severe winter storm, with dropping temperatures and blizzard conditions for pols in Illinois.

Meanwhile, wildly entertaining weather is forecast for other parts of the country.

Yes, it's heat and green and puffy clouds for the rest of us.

But, having the musical interests I do, and being the parent of a full-time choirboy, I was much more interested in the Gloria singing contest on the same site.

As the Gov. Blags situation plays out, Althouse ought to have a poll here, too, for the best singer in a Federal corruption case.

Here's something for all New Orleanians to appreciate more now:

My favorite poem. And timely -- we're just about up to the darkest evening of the year.

Now that he's out of office, does Jefferson have anything to offer in a deal? Can he go continue paying his lawyers to file motions and eventually go to trial on a $43k a year retirement income? Are there any Jefferson family members who haven't already sung here in the Crescent City? They started solid, with "We are Family" but one by one, they've been picked off. Will Mose turn on William (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) These are things we'd like to know down here.

TPM Cafe has a contest going for most corrupt state - the nominees are Illinois, Louisiana and the young upstart, Alaska.

Meanwhile, it's Christmas - will W commute the sentence of Edwin Edwards? If Edwin sang, it would be "I did it my way."

That is a wonderful poem, and best sung to "Hernando's Hideaway," Madman.

Theo, I don't know how anyone could not vote for the 14-yo boy in the Gloria contest.

I was very happy it wasn't the Laura Branigan song, by the way.

Beth, that's hilarious.

The meter of the poem has changed forever for me.

My, my what a cold autumn this year. We should all rejoice to see the Global Warming scare end just in time for the USA to escape the UN's clutches for a few more years. Have a Holly Jolly Christmas everyone.

It was nice while it lasted, but our snow turned to rain. The last sad remnants of a snowman are melting on the university quad.

The snow always melts. Why, ours will be gone by mid-March!

MadMan,

How true! Our snow is gone as well!

Granted, it fell in 1989. And was gone five minutes after.

But what a day!
