"Thugs have been masquerading as Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) workers, knocking on doors in the dead of night."

In Queens, where people "say the real workers have been nowhere in sight" and they're "arming themselves with guns, baseball bats, booby traps — even a bow and arrow — to defend against looters."

You're supposed to always believe somebody who claims to be the police, though.

Otherwise they can shoot you.

This is just dress rehearsal for the main event, which will start soon after Romney reaches 270, sometime on Tuesday evening.

Vote Obama or else.

Look for the union label.

That should bring this idea to a quick decline. You don't want to face a scared disaster victim with a crossbow.

Except they won't need to bother with disguises - it will just be a political thing. (and those of us who voted for Romney will be to blame).

Seriously, this could be devastating - a real apocolypse. Whole areas that are already impaired - no electric, no transportation, weary citizens, law enforcement resources stretched to the max, etc. Wonder who is equipped to handle something like that -the military? The President? Will the damages rise to those already caused by the storm?

Crossbows are nasty. I once had a patient, a landlady who had a dispute with a tenant, who was shot with a crossbow. Right through her heart and liver. Nasty. If I were those guys pounding on the door at 1 AM, I'd be careful.

“I would take a looter with a boa. If I felt threatened I would definitely use it,” said Keone Singlehurst, 42. “Its like the Wild West. A borderline lawless situation.”

Well, it is called Queens.

Interesting update to Barry's concern tour with Christie.

Apparently, it's looking like Katrina for him now that people are seeing him screw up yet again.

Part of the reason why the Rockaways have so many low-life characters is the city's longstanding practice of using the Far Rockaway housing projects as a dumping ground for tenants who misbehaved in projects elsewhere in the city.

And in NYC it's next to impossible to get a pistol permit and you can't have a long gun without registering it. Hence, citizens relying on boas.

The bridge where the A train goes through to cross into the Rockaways will be closed for a while.

Then how can anyone go to Sugar Hill way up in Harlem?

The same is true of Los Angeles but a lot of women carry concealed pistols in spite of it. A lefty radio talk show host years ago had a program on how dangerous it was to have guns. Every caller was a woman who carried a pistol with her when she went out ! Every one.!

After a while he gave up being horrified, at least out loud. It was hilarious.

The "boa" comment must be a typo. I can't see letting a big snake loose on someone or waving a plumed scarf as providing any sort of deterrent.

Cedarford said...

Yeah, it is tough to get a pistol unless you are connected in NYC or are applying for a job as a bodyguard to the richest people.

But for regular home defense, a pump action 12 guage is quite sufficient for most situations, and NYC residents can buy them.

If you are liberal and have no guns, or even if you do, home defense does not start with firearms use. It starts not letting black thug looking people into your home at 2AM "cuase We's restoring de power and needs to come in to check yo wiring". If you have 911 service and are doubtful, call the cops and ask them to come and verify the people at your door aren't home invasion thugs or looters...
And don't say you called the cops. That betters the chances of the cops bagging the thugs if they arrive in time (which is sketchy at best, particularly when cops are tied up in a disaster).

But if you shoot black thugs in NYC, be prepared for serious legal and lawsuit possibilities, even if they are shot inside your house. Their lawyers, the family lawyer's will be all over you. NYC is the home of the ACLU and Al Sharpton.

Switching from the Rockaways to Staten Island, you've probably heard the tragic story of Glenda Moore, whose two little sons were swept from her arms and drowned after her car stalled in flood waters and a heartless homeowner refused to let them inside. It should come as no surprise that her story is more full of holes than a block of Swiss cheese.

While the country extended a tremendous helping hand to Louisiana and the South after Hurricane Katrina, there were plenty from the north who made negative comments, casting aspersions on us Southerners. I certainly don't wish this sort of worst side of humanity on anybody, but it is a reminder that no region or area of the country is inherently better, superior, or more civilized than any other area of the country.

I lived in Southern California in the '90s. If all you had was a pistol you were seriously outgunned.

FEMA has now run out of water in NYC. Where is Wal Mart when you need them ?

Probably kept out of the city because they're nonunion.

It's hard to get an AK 47 into a purse. Maybe that's why those big purses got popular around then.

Ask the door knockers for a voice test.

If they speak Delaware-ese & says "I have an ID", it means that they haven't an ID because of the gamma nasal or something

Make that

& say "I have an ID"

The pump has a couple of features. Our bedroom is up the stairs and around a corner. The pump makes a distinctive sound. If some a$$hole hears me rack that 12 gauge back, and still comes up the stairs, he owns the hole in his chest.

And of course if you are feeling generous/cheap, you can always give him a vertical buttstroke and a smash. He might live through that, and it doesn't cost you anything.

My lawyer says however, it's better to shoot him. Fewer versions that way.

Here in Texas we don't have stinken gun control like NYC. Looters come, looters DIE.

Simple as that.

But in NYC, with gun control, most people are at the mercy of a gang. One or two people can't fight off six or seven. But with a good gun, they have a chance.

And that is the big difference. The 2nd Amendment is not about duck hunting!

I was told by a gun store owner that was all you would ever need to protect yourself in your home.

That sound will send 99% of intruders out the back door.

My brother works for the NYC watershed (upstate, at a large reservoir that took our original town in 1909 -- and the grievance has been passed on thru the generations). He was in the thick of it during last year's Irene when large parts of Ulster, Delaware, Greene and especially Schoharie County were devastated, and now he is working in Queens, supervising a crew who are cutting trees, etc. He's in the union and has been an ethical public servant, safeguarding our beloved reservoir and the city's water supply for 25 years, on call 24/7. He's not a loudmouth union advocate and neither am I, but I am proud of my brother for the work he is doing and praying he stays safe.

Michael K said, "Crossbows are nasty."

They are certainly nasty, but, they also have a very low rate of fire.

Therefore one person with a crossbow has a dilemma when facing multiple threats, as most of your deterrent will be gone if you actually shoot it.
