"Three Senate Democrats from states where Obama lost in 2012 – and who are up for reelection themselves in 2014..."

"... voted this week against their own party's fix for the 'sequester.' Will such votes hamstring Obama's legislative agenda?"
The GOP's Mitt Romney carried seven states where Senate Democrats will be up for reelection come 2014. Democrats are going to need to protect many of those to keep their Senate majority.

Their votes/positions on gun control will have a much larger affect than sequester. Pro-2nd amendment or expect early retirement. (Read Ann's earlier post for details on handling retirement.)

And this will be without Axelrod and Plouffe fixing the election, so it's going to be doubly tough.

Democrats don't have principles, they have calculations.

Those calculations will change as soon as they are re-elected.

April Apple, you are so right.there is not one Republican as bad or hypocritical or as immoral as even the best Democrat. It's the Machiavellian world view that one must first have to even become a Democrat. Fuckers all. How much much better this country would be if they were all gone. Seriuosly just spend a few moments thinkng about a Congress and Presidency where principals such as not stealing from Americans to give to others for their votes so you can stay in power - what would that be like? Think about it.

Right now, I have little faith in the Republican's ability to capitalize on Democratic weakness.

Brent, having seen a decade ago what happens when Republicans have all the marbles, my preference is for gridlock. However much you may hate one or the other party (however much they may deserve your hate), we're best off when each party holds something.

Only rethugs do vote fraud. All the libs here say so.

Tim, you do have a point - the Republican Senate under Bush - was a failure in many ways in protecting the American people. But, alas - even it was SOOOO much better than the Harry Reid run litter box we have today.

Harry Reid is Obama's sock puppet, serving to render the Senate immobile.

Brent - I did not make a comment regarding republicans.
This post is about democrats.

I have witnessed that some people (and yes, these are democrats) will do and say anything to get elected, and then abandon their promises after they re-gain power.

Balance of power is a separate issue.

Gun issue votes are big news now, but come election time people will vote with their wallets. Obamacare votes will figure more into the mix then.

I don't think that you can really discount gun issues, for those Senators who vote in favor of gun laws and are from red or redsh states. BUT, I don't think that there is any real appetite in the Senate Dems from these states to commit political suicide for the benefit of party unity, and Harry Reid, from the state in which you can rent machine guns, will likely be in the lead there.

AprilApple, I did not equate what you said as referring to the balance of power, I simply said you were right. I can see, however, that it would have been clearer to you if I had begun the next sentence as the beginning if a new paragraph.
