Madison's Snuggle House closes for good — because "the push back and harassment is not worth it, honestly."

"It has nothing to do with the services. It has to do with how much hate you want to tolerate. It’s not worth it. Not these days."

Ooh. Sounds like somebody needs a hug.

What happened? Too much regulation... or just not enough customers? I don't know. Who were the haters? The city or the citizens?

Anyway, goodbye to Snuggle House, we here at Alt House enjoyed talking about the concept. I went from assuming it was a hoax, to facilitating a conversation about what it would be, to more or less rooting for it

Knowing there was — at least once — a dream of people paying $60 an hour to be snuggled, maybe we can all feel a little more warmly rewarded by the snuggles we get at home.

I'm running a special on snuggles and hugs here at Meadhouse. Because you're special. So special.

We all knew Madison was just too full of Snuggle h8ers to let it succeed. I'll bet when Mother Jones mag does an expose' on this they'll find Gov. Walker's & the Koch Brothers' fingerprints all over it.

Seriously, I'll bet the owners found out that things were costing more than they thought & no one was coming in through the door, so they picked a good "martyr" story to close the business around.

They have these in Japan, I think. You know the place with low birth-rates, weird fetishes and sex robots?

If my "Sub-Zero Yoga" studio doesn't work out, I'm planning on a "Sexercise" program, thanks to you Althouse.

For the health of the Nation.

I'm thinking we'll get prostitutes in off the street, license, tax and regulate them. We train 'em.

Then, we'll lobby like hell to get 'Sexercise' as part of some national health regimen, or say it's for social justice or sex rights or some such.

Get some university endorsements.

The we blitz the the daytime Oprah crowd and show how it's for the social good, not just creepy Johns, truckers and business travelers.

I need capital. Who's in?

How about reviving the old Babylonian custom of temple prostitutes, then you could get around the law on 1st Amendment grounds. Just tell the cops "Hey, they let those whacked-out Indians smoke peyote, don't they?".

Church attendance skews heavily female. Well, not this one!

Somehow paying for hugs and snuggles doesn't compute. It's like trying to buy love. A puppy works so much better since the puppy really does love you.

Why would I pay her $60 bucks to go away?

Stupid. If you want to reduce stress levels and need human contact, put down the friggin’ iPad, shut off the smart phone and go visit your family and friends and give a big hug. If you don’t have family or friends than volunteer with kids or the elderly and gives hugs.

There are plenty of people who need help, kind words and hugs.

Hegelian,

I was thinking more the church of Oprah, because it's tough to fill the pews and be 'sex positive' at the same time.

The Snuggle House is for pu**ies quite frankly, and we don't need temples, we need secular mega-malls floating in the sky.

'Sexercise' will be but one option, like praying at the chapel in the airport.

Why do people get so worked up about a private business? Just goes to show, many people claim to be libertarian, right up until they see something that's out of the norm--then it's tongue-clicking disapproval

Blue@9, seems to me the tongue-clickers and bluenoses here in Madison tend to call themselves Liberals and Progressives.

I don't believe they weren't busy enough. Everyone was talking about them before they opened, and now that they are closed. That much publicity sells snuggle services. It's awful to pour your blood sweat and tears into a dream, just to have people hate you and shut you down. I'm sure they thought Madison was liberal enough to handle the concept. Just one week after small business Saturday too. Way to go snuggle bullies.

Seems to me that they were shut down not because they were hated but because people hated to part with their money for that service.
