"[A] psychologist at a state-run clinic in Iran says some gay people now end up being pushed towards surgery."

"Doctors are told to tell gay men and women that they are 'sick' and need treatment, she says."
They usually refer them to clerics who tell them to strengthen their faith by saying their daily prayers properly. But medical treatments are also offered. And because the authorities "do not know the difference between identity and sexuality"... doctors tell the patients they need to undergo gender reassignment.

In many countries this procedure involves psychotherapy, hormone treatment and sometimes major life-changing operations - a complex process that takes many years. That's not always the case in Iran.

"They show how easy it can be," Shabnam says. "They promise to give you legal documents and, even before the surgery, permission to walk in the street wearing whatever you like. They promise to give you a loan to pay for the surgery."

Don't let Titus hear this. He will become very angry at the Christians.

Is this when I am supposed to call Althouse and the authors of the linked article "Islamophobes" or what?

That's the most under-reported story of the night.

Permission to wear whatever you like? Well, as long as you like chadors if you're a woman, or womanish, anyway.

Doesn't that imply Allah makes mistakes?

Huh? Impossible. Everyone knows they don't have gays in Iran.

Old story. Apparently, Tehran is known as the sex-change capital of the world. There's even a 2008 documentary, Be Like Others, on the subject.

Is it better than being stoned to death OR having a masonry wall tipped over on such perverts?

Mind boggling. How does the fundamentalist Muzzie relate to the former dude who has completed transition? If there's a Muzzie equivalent of Laugh-In I'm sure this comedic scenario is frequently exploited.

Homosexual orientation is a psychopathy, but unless it manifests as a sociopathy, or represents a progressive condition in society or humanity, then logically it is tolerable. I'm surprised that they don't mention other dysfunctional, unproductive, or fetish behaviors. I guess Iran also practices selective exclusion.

That said, whether it is a product of nature or nurture, it may be possible to treat homosexual orientation. It should be a choice. Pro-choice. Treatment, not abortion. Capital punishment seems like a cruel and unusual punishment disproportionate to the... What, crime?

If only somebody told Valerie Jarrett I am sure these things would stop, right after Iran gains nuclear weapons.

How many in Jerusalem will be slaughtered because Obama is president?

That is confusion being made even more confusing.

If I understood the article, the gay men should make themselves into women and the gay women should make themselves into men.

What does that solve? The income for the surgeons maybe.

Gay men aren't transgender. They're men.

This qualifies as torture.

Quite a bit less of how people who are gay are being abused and than how absolute power corrupts absolutely. Hardly new.

cooches, not coaches, sorry.

I voted for a "Massachusetts" republican for governor!!! Do you know over the past 25 years we have had many more republican governors than pube governors-I like that. We are not a predictable as many think. Although a republican in Mass is a liberal democrat in Mississippi-I like that too.

I also like that there are no more white democrats in the south.

tits.

So they offer either 'treatment' or hanging, right? Well that is the Muslim way.

But don't tell Obama about all of this. He's policies were up for the election till they lost and now they are not a determinator of the elections.

And he is still fighting the 'war on women' and does not have time for the 'war on civilization.'

As long as the state is in control of the situation progressives don't care what the result is.

When you consider that the alternative treatment for gays in Iran is hanging them by the neck until they're dead from slow, painful strangulation, perhaps surgery isn't so bad.
