Oh, no! The British royals named their princess baby after the American royals' princess baby!

Charlotte.

PREVIOUSLY: "Well, they're not going to name the baby Charlotte! That's the name that was chosen for America's royal baby."

AND: It's Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Putting Charlotte first is a tribute to William's father, Charles, right?

ALSO: "Charlotte allows transgender people to choose restrooms"... a headline that made me go What?!

Hope that kid gets her looks from Mom, not Dad.

I don't know why any Americans give the least shit about the royals.

No they didn't. You read the Times too much, ma'am.

Putting Charlotte first lets her be her own person (Princess Charlotte) rather than another Princess Diana or the Other Elizabeth.

It's a soap opera for the folks on the short bus.

It's a feminine diminutive of a masculine name. The emphasis on diminutive. Not a proper name for a future Queen, but if she's pretty, might be able to pull it off.

the commoner's touch..about time. Now can we take all their palaces and convert them to luxury hotels (like once India did with its royals)?

And nobody is calling Chelsea's baby American royals' princess -- that is only in your head, Althouse.

PLEASE....Clintons ARE NOT royalty....they may think they are, as do the Obamas....but they work for us. (at least that is the way it is supposed to be)

If I had a barn filled with shits, I wouldn't give a single one. That goes for the royal baby, as well as the Clinton baby born of corruption and sleaze.

Same as sports, it's entertainment.

The royals have no imagination. Why pick Charlotte when there are many excellent substitutes out there like Shabooboo,Lashaniqua,Sharqueffa,Lashaquanishia just to name a few.

Wait, they named their girl Malia?

That's going to be awfully confusing when the two Charlottes marry to reunite the kingdoms.

The Clinton scion was named to carry North Carolina in 2016. It was down to Charlotte, Madison, or Denver

Raleigh if it was a boy

Smart moves to keep the parents and grandparents happy. Covers Charles, Queen Elizabeth and Diana. If they have another son they can call him Philip.

Etienne said...

They should get Mohamed Al-Fayed to kill three lambs in her honor. His son was going to be the father of Diana's third child.

Of course as an Egyptian Queen, she will have to be circumcised.

Ever heard of Queen Charlotte Sound ?

Hush, hush, sweet Charlotte.

Obviously, they are not old movie fans.

Do transgendered have to have undergone sexual reassignment surgery or do they merely have to assert that they are in fact transgendered.
So, if I like going into a womans bathroom to ogle women, how much proof would I need to provide as to my transgenderism to get to stay in the womans room and act like a perv? Are they taking my word for it?

It should be Charlotte Camille Diana, then, shouldn't it?

Lottie for short. Until Letitia dies unexpectedly in a Hospital in Switzerland, and Lottie takes over for Lettie.

It took me a long time to figure out who the American royals were. I thought you meant the Bravo TV Series "The Royals".

MayBee said...

I would say, "Stop trying to make Chelsea happen"

Big Mike said...

@MadMan, you're another Agatha Christie fan? Or just the PBS Miss Marple series?

Big Mike
Hercule Poirot is the man. Ms. Marple is too much of old grandmotherly type.

NorthOfTheOneOhOne said...

It's the Diana that gets me. I would have thought the Windor's would want nothing to do with that name.

jr565 said...

Always like the Hercule Poirot mysteries, but was always left cold by Mrs. Marple. Wonder why that is.

NorthOfTheOneOhOne said...

Windsor's, I meant.

Big Mike said...

@jr565, but it was Miss Marple who figured out that Lottie had replaced Lettie. My favorite Hercule Poirot is "Five Little Pigs," especially for the way he reveals the true murderer of Amyas Crale.

SPOILER ALERT!!!

"It is the picture of a murderess painted by her victim – it is the picture of a girl watching her lover die."

Maybe -- *maybe* -- Elizabeth and Charles feel that way.

But why would William and Kate feel that way?

I suspect most of us don't, including the would-be American royals like the Kennedys, Clintons, Bushes, and other political dynasties.

I'm not familiar with that one. (Was that on the show or an actual Christie novel) I'm more partial to the ones that were made into movies, like Death on the Nile. Also, Murder of Roger Akroyd, which to my knowledge wasnt'.

And we'll never be royals
(Royals)
It don't run in our blood
that kind of lux just aint for us, we crave a different kind of buzz.

@BigMike, I have every book, hardcover. Inherited from my inlaws. Some haven't been read for a while (Postern of Fate, for example).

Just watched The Mirror Crackd last night.

Depends on what you mean by "the least shit." When I started reading this post, I had no idea what princess the prof. was talking about (I also didn't have a clue who the American royals might be). I didn't know Kate was pregnant, I had to think a moment to come up with her name, and I couldn't tell you the name of her husband.

BUT the English royals are one of the world's most prominent families, however unearned their status. The events of their lives merit comment because of their status in British society, regardless of their lack of status in American society.

Big Mike said...

@MadMan, I've read most of them, many checked out from the library and others borrowed from friends. I don't think I actually own any Agatha Christie books in my personal library. I do have all of Dorothy L. Sayres' Lord Peter Wimsey books. Must be a defect in my character.

@jr565, it's from "Murder is Announced," which I've both read and seen done on our local PBS station with Joan Hickson as Miss Marple, and it's thought to be one of Christie's best.

Red Tory said...

The wife of George III was Queen Charlotte, so the name has historical significance.

Deb said...

And don't you think Joan Hickson was the definitive Miss Marple? I loved Geraldine MacEwan (RIP) but just didn't think she matched Hickson in that role.

Here in NC we have Charlotte and VA has Charlottesville. It's a good royal name, even for a girl not slated to be Queen.

Personally when I hear the name I can't help but think of "Charlotte the harlot, the cow punchers' whore."

Somebody told me Chelsea named her Charlotte Web, to honor the maternal grandfather.

amielalune said...

Puh-lease, Ann. I guarantee you the royal family had no idea that Chelsea Clinton Wa?????sky's baby is named Charlotte and would not care less if they did.

The people who think the Clintons are American royalty consist of: the Clintons, the American enemedia; simple people who are unduly influenced by the celebrity culture of the American enemedia; people educated beyond their intelligence who are influenced by the American enemedia; and I suppose an occasional intellectual such as yourself.

The rest of us recognize them for the hucksters they are.
