3 views of Reedsburg, Wisconsin.

This is the storefront that made us stop and get out:

I wisecracked "Weedsburg." But the town is more focused on fermentation:

The fest was last week. We missed it. But we enjoyed our brief sojourn in Reedsburg...

... one of the places we stopped as we were out driving, looking at orange and red leaves.

The downtown looks carefully restored, which lots of neat, well-painted facades like that.

If you keep driving, you get to a commercial strip nearer the interstate, and it's unpretty in the utilitarian style you'd expect in Wisconsin. Not too crowded, not run down, and nice big Culver's to redeem it.

I always complain to my mom about downtown Waunakee. Waunakee has tons of new money and the population continues to grow. The downtown is fricking gross.

Reedsburg downtown looks like somewhere in Vermont-so nice to see the restoration. You don't see that often is small towns in Wisconsin.

I've never considered Waunakee as having a downtown.

Reedsburg is a nice little town. Reminds me of a French city I used to visit. The colors are in press ive this time of year.

An SUV town, it's bound to be nice.

Waunakee's downtown is a couple grappy bars and gas stations

I notice that gritty action DVDs don't include a gag reel.

That lovely storefront with the light green awning (that says Fermentophone) has a sign saying the property is for sale.

Asking price appears to be $89,500.

And $200,000 worth of plumbing and electrical work to bring it up to code. Hence the enduring appeal of strip malls as historic small-town downtowns molder.

It looks like Granville, OH.

It looks like the kind of town where they notice when a girl's gone missing.

Maybe the same thing.

I am Laslo.

Fermentation Fest

What is that?

A community wide yeast infection?

There really is an overabundance of yellow leaves in Madison. You've got to drive to find the russet tones.

Exactly. Lodi has a downtown. Even Dane has a bigger downtown than Waunakee.

Thanks..grandparents lived in Reedsburg..we visited often in the 50's and have been back many times and continue to follow stories..hence finding your blog. Downtown has changed many times...and as one said, at least it has a downtown. Interesting town history including Lands End. Stop by Mirror Lake sometime..:).
