Yes! We have no potato! We have no potato today!

Actually in the original song, the seller does have po-tay-to today!

"There's a fruit store on our street,
It's run by a Greek
And he keeps good things to eat,
But you should hear him speak
When you ask him anything, never answers 'No'
He just 'yes -ses' you to death
And as he take your dough he tells you:

Yes! we have no bananas, we have no bananas today!
We've broad beans like bunions
cabbahges and honions
And all kinds of fruit and say,
We have an old fashioned tomahto a nice Jersey potahto,
But yes! we have no bananas!
We have no bananas today!

I didn't think pelmeni were usually made with potatoes. Wouldn't potato pelmeni just be vareniki or pirogies?

HA! Palladian, that's a great song, and it's in my car CD changer right now. I know this is going to sound totally yuppie, but Pottery Barn Kids sell these CDs with the most interesting compilations of classics like this one.

OK, actually, I think they sell the Louis Prima version of the song which is not the original.
