Replacing Linda Greenhouse at the NYT...

... is Adam Liptak.
The resume is impressive. But what impressed me [i.e., Washington bureau chief Dean Baquet] most in my discussions with Adam was his remarkable ability to talk about the law with sweep and simplicity. It was striking that these are the precise qualities that make Linda such a great reporter.

Linda would have been a great reporter if she didn't allow her biases to infect all of her writing and she didn't feel compelled to make public pronouncements on topics she covered. And of course her conflict of interest issues. Not exactly the best candidate to teach Journalism ethics 101.

While I agree with the Sgt that Linda is not anywhere near to winning the award for Perfect Unbiased Journalist - we conservatives hate her constant liberal viewpoint coloring her "reporting" - I always found myself wanting to read her first when something major happened on the Court.

The truth is Linda Greenhouse was the best at digging out more of the story. She may not have had ALL the facts, but she certainly could find out MORE facts more quickly than anyone else. Besides, one could certainly learn to read around her biases

Sigh . . . this reviler of the New York Times will miss her . . .

am in full agreement. My house is a NYT subscriber (I can't break my NY wife of her crosswords and Sunday Times)

Greenhouse was a must read, but you needed to understand her biases to get full value and she would have been better absent her clear prejudices

She'd be better off at Yale advocating for Journalists, than teaching Journalist advocacy.
