"Those aren't words. What does that mean? 'I'm sorry, I was wrong'?"

And for more ways to re-enjoy the legendary O'Reilly meltdown, here it is, where it more than belongs, enshrined in the "Top 10 Angry On-Air Meltdowns." (Are there some on-air meltdowns that aren't angry?)

This one isn't angry. But it is definitely a meltdown.

Yes, a meltdown of extreme politeness would be amusing to see...

Meltdown implies heat. I say anger is required and angry meltdown is redundant.

When someone has a big laughing fit, you don't call it a meltdown.

I think you're being too literal.

Wasn't there an incident where a newsreader killed herself on the air?

A meltdown implies (to me) a dramatic and sudden loss of functionality. Anger, sure, but also grief or complete shock (not a sudden, momentary surprise, but one the person doesn't recover from on the air).

Meltdown implies heat.

It can also imply liquidity. If a personal suddenly broken down into sobbing and nose-blowing, I would call that a meltdown.
