Mickey Kaus thought he was being paranoid, worrying that Obama's Democrats would unravel welfare reform.

"On bloggingheads my colleague Bob Wright routinely ridiculed me as paranoid for worrying that if Democrats got back in power they would unravel welfare reform. Even I thought I was paranoid. If only for political purposes, I figured, Dems would have to wait a few months or years before sabotaging Bill Clinton's major domestic achievement. It took them two weeks."

(Would it kill Mickey to give us a nice Bloggingheads snippet of Bob's savage mockery?)

AND: Not precisely apt, but funny:

Maybe you're seeing the disincentive effects of his recent 10% pay cut at Slate.

Whatever you subsidize, you create more of. If you make it easier for people to get on the dole, you'll get more able-bodied people not working and leeching off the State.

Elections have consequences. When you put the fox in charge of the hen house, you won't have to break eggs to make an omelet any more, since the fox will steal all of the eggs. That's what Congress is doing now. If you want an omelet, you'll have to submit a form in triplicate to the new Department of Breakfast Foods and wait two years, or perhaps you can get the Egg Czar to intervene personally for you if your campaign contributions were large enough.

Clyde -

The fox doesn't steal the eggs, it kills the chickens.

There are no more eggs.

He just links.

Henry,

actually it does both.

Most small carnivores hunt for nests, and run off the birds to chow down on eggs. To the extent the birds fight and die fo the eggs, that's a bonus

The unraveling has already begun.

Just this morning I saw an obese black lady driving a Cadillac.

If you're not angry . . . you're not paying attention.

The things you learn on the inner tubes:

"Surplus killing, as the name suggests, is the practice of killing more than you can consume at the time – a good example of this is the damage a fox can do in a chicken run. If a fox gets into a chicken pen, it will often kill all accessible fowl, and appear to leave them just lying around ..."

Ode to BHO

Spend spend spend, the money you don't have.
Tax and take from those who make.

Stir the potion and chant the names:
Ponzi, FDR, Marx, and Keynes
Make us rich from theft and bat wings

Ignore ignore all the failed states
that have fallen on that selfsame sword
Believe of history not a single word
For this time it will be different

From base metal we'll make gold
From shit we'll make shinola
From debt we'll multiply the fishes and loaves

Live beyond your means
By any means necessary
And this just means

We'll take your money for common good
Because it was never your money to begin with.

Again with the war meme. Now how do you explain the current wastage? Reparations? Patronage? You don't care because you will get your share?

And remember, your beloved leader is still fighting two wars, still runs the torture business, Gitmo is still open, and all the other programs you communists hate are still running. Plus he just spent another trillion we don't have. How do you like him now. Wait, I know, you like him just fine.

I didn't think Kaus was paranoid. I thought he was an optimist. The former "think" turned out to be right. Time will tell if the latter "thought" turns out to be right. Nothing to do but wait and see and hope to be wrong.

former law student said...

Now how do you explain the current wastage?

To stop the imminent death spiral of skyrocketing unemployment, followed by accelerating mortgage default rates, accompanied by minimal consumption rates, followed by deflation and worldwide panic.

I hope all commenters here plant a vegetable garden this year. Raising bunnies and chickens in your backyard might be necessary later on.

Does anyone listen to old time radio? The network show sponsors back then made consumables, not durables or non-essentials: P&G's Oxydol, Johnson's Glo-Coat, Lucky Strike cigarettes. In the future, our big shopping spree may be to buy a new cake of Ivory -- which can be used to wash your clothes if you whittle shavings off it.

Use it up
Wear it out
Make it do
Or do without.

The Dude said...

So, the most recent trillion is to save banks and mortgages. You read the bill, eh? That puts you ahead of all the democraps in congress, I must say.

Get back to me in a year when unemployment is still high and bankruptcy and defaults are at record levels. Your messiah is an arrogant community organizer with delusions of adequacy.

Oh look! I found the perfect outfit for Former Law Student-

Someone Should Sue

From the designer-I was in Times Square when he was elected and it was like just such a beautiful emotion. I had the sensation of flying. He's definitely a fashion icon. He's brand new, he's a black president, and he's so handsome.

My experience with home gardening that is that it costs more than the grocery store. We keep an herb garden, but for everything else we do a farm share. Better stuff for less money and no work.

Raising bunnies and chickens will be a bitch to get past zoning.

Remember the bunny sequence in Roger and Me? I've always admired that woman.

I thinks it's funny how the libs are having such a hard time making the conversion from Bush to Obama. If you tune in Keith or Madcow it still seems like "all Bush, all the time". It's almost like Bush was James Brown. Coming back for encore after encore after being carried off the stage.

Hey, the rest of us can spend at least as much time talking about how the Bush administration left the economy in ruins, as the right wing spent talking about how the Clinton administration left their offices in a mess.

The Dude said...

Not offices so much as the oval office carpet, mind you.

Oh boy Rush is ranting up a storm right now. He is promising to use the government as a weapon against all liberals if the GOP ever gets to power again. I think he's baiting Pelosi to start hearing on "Fairness Doctrine". Go ahead lefties, just dare to question Rush's patriotism!

Keep 'em poor, on the dole, and voting Democrat.

What's the problem, from a machine Democrat's perspective?

(What I like about Mickey is he's partisan as all get out, but his partisanship is rooted in his belief in what the Democratic Party is supposed to be about, instead of what it actually does. God bless him.)

Chennaul said...

Damn!

FLS-you don't like the outfit at the link?

You're right-too much Obama would make your ass look fat.

LonewackoDotCom said...

OK, so Mickey has discovered a major problem.

And, Althouse has at least publicized it a bit, albeit concentrating on the soap opera side of things.

What now?

Does anyone have a realistic, non-joke plan?

Here's my plan to block the stimulus or at least get things like the welfare bit taken out. It's odd how I'm the only one pushing something that would work, almost like those who pretend to oppose the stimulus or the welfare parts of it are just paper tigers who can't come up with solutions or who are afraid of actually doing anything.

You better get Wild Root Cream Oil, Charlie. Start using it today. You'll find that you will have a hard time, Charlie, keeping all the gals away! (Hiya Baldy!)

Henry,
Stick to no 3 hens an no roosters and you'll have plenty of eggs and no problems from the city.

Gotta love the ending of the article at the link-

These banks will have an insatiable appetite for funds and, like all zombies, will try to eat our brains. From the looks of what's coming out of Washington, maybe they already have.

Never fear though Rep. Maxine Waters is one of the senior members of the House Finance Committee .

Here's a quote from her-

Guess what this liberal will be all about, this liberal will be all about socializing....taking over and the government running all of your companies.

Pogo,
I like your poem, but they are not idiots, they are evil.

I can't give them the benefit of the doubt any longer. Obama just plasters that smile on his face and lets Rahm and Nancy do his dirty work.

Found a video. Congress people around her smirking. And ya wonder why the public distrust these DC hacks.

Wonder why they didn't make it $799.99 billion? It's SUCH a deal.

The federal government is becoming California writ large. Just spend like there's no tomorrow and pretend the bills will never have to be paid.

And FLS, the fact that the economy is in bad shape is neither Bush's fault nor an excuse to make it worse.

That would be the thread where you tried to spin an economist's criticism of the last 100 years of American financial practices as an attack on the Bush administration?

Yes, people should definitely go read that. Otherwise they might be fooled into thinking you know what you're talking about. :)

And the blame game continues...
Why is everyone so excited? Obama said who he was when he was running against Hillary. He is a socialist and will do everything to "change" the country. One party rule is destructive. We must change that in 2010.
