"He's a figment of her imagination. An eggment of her imagination."

He doesn't have ego. He has eggo.

Years ago, during my brief flirtation with Warren Farrell inspired men's issues groups, this was a common topic of conversation, but in different terms.

The men's issues groups talked a lot about how feminism was inspired by the horror that any woman would have to settle for a blue collar truck driving man.'

This insipid, self-serving drivel is not a bug in your ideology, Ann. It's a feature.

Ultimately, I couldn't stand Farrell's groups either. Their answer was "feminism for men."

All right, damn it, someone has to say it...

Let go of my ego!

And, I hate to say it, Ann... but... here goes...

Isn't your Dylan obsession sort of in that porn for women category?

Starving hobo musician, who just happens to be a Jewish intellectual, saves the world from injustice by writing stirring protest songs!

With a beautiful blond shiksa on his arm!

Walking down the mean streets of Soho!

And, by the way, Ann, I've got nothing against your version of porn.

You're entitled to it.

But, you've open derided and dismissed the male version... which is the graphic and open display of raw screwing.

Something about the video quality not being good enough.

It's only fair to be interested in the opposite sex's version of trashy porn.

Hey, I resemble that remark.

So, what we've got is yet another installment in the eternal debate:

"Why can't somebody make a porn movie with a good plot so that both men and women can enjoy it and get off?"

It's been tried. The "Devil in Miss Jones" is probably the triumphant entry in this category. I heartily recommend it.

And, there still isn't a market for it.

The "Devil in Miss Jones" was produced by the Dark Brothers during the early days of the porn industry in San Francisco. Made even more interesting by the fact that one of the Dark Brothers murdered the other brother, and was acquitted. Everybody was coked up to the gills.

I always thought Dirty Dancing was the most blatant example of frilly porn, and the shame was that it was marketed for underage girls. Women strive for romance and end up in porn versions of Madame Bovary.

Uh... you seem to miss the part where I hate that movie. I'm deriding female porn (*more* than male porn). I'd like to know what it possibly could have been in my writing that caused you to think I was finding that film clip sexy. I hope it's just that you didn't read what I wrote at all.

I can see that shoutingthomas is a devotee of classic seventies and early eighties porm. I knew that there was something about him I liked.

Seventies and eighties porn made a pretense at having a plot and storyline. This was spoofed in the great mainstream movie "Boogie Nights" where Dirk Diggler makes a series of porn detective movies. Loosely based on the life of Long John Holmes, "Boogie Nights" gives you the flavor of exactly what shoutingthomas was talking about in the famous murder of one of the Dark brothers by the other.

If I was to recomend a good selection of early porn I would go with Nasty Nurses, Lips Lips Lips with Vanessa Del Rio, Country Boy and of course the award winning Taboo with the immortal Kay Parker.

And as an added bonus "The Graffenburg Spot" which is extremely hard to find as it features an underage Traci Lords who had all of her films pulled from release after it was determined that she made them when under the age of 18.

Ann, I was talking about your Dylan porn obsession.

What's the difference between that an "An Unmarried Woman?"

the man's behavior is an idiotic female fantasy. The way the man paints through the conversation is inane. He might as well be cleaning the toilet. He listens to every banal thing she yammers about what ingredients to put in the eggs, stops painting to eat the eggs out of the pan with her, and kisses her while she's chewing on the eggs. Eating and kissing a handsome, artistic man.

Meanwhile, she shows no interest in that painting he's working on — like the eggs are more important than the art! In real life, what male painter with any ego would behave that way? He's a figment of her imagination. An eggment of her imagination.

As such an example of female porn, the movie scene is something of an inversion of Althouse's "hori hori" video of Meade planting bulbs. Replace "banal yammering" with "city girl questions" and there you go.

Ask Meade, the male ego does not require that a woman be always focused on what it is we're working on, especially while we're doing it!

See also, "man cave."

Professor ...you are being too hard on fiction. We know, or we used to know, that it is not real life. It's entertainment...like "playing" slot machines at Las Vegas, or buying Mega Lottery tickets. Jill could make dreams that spiced up dull people's real lives.
