"I'm willing to lead but I'm not willing to preside over people who are cannibals...."

"Frankly, Marianne and I could use a break."

Who said it?

It couldn't be Gilligan, so I say the professor.

My first thought was Gingrich. Few other people, especially in politics, would employ such an allusion.

He never changes his approach, does he?

Disposable people. No wonder "Soylent Green" was so huge. It even had "green" in the title.

It's a good thing the term "Boomer" is preceded by the word "Baby" or else you could miss the whole point behind their behavior.

I can still remember the night I was at a rave, and all the x-kids started showing up with pacifiers in their mouths (and nothing else in their heads) and I thought, "Ahhh, the Boomer's children are all grown up." And then I left and never went to another rave again.

Christ. Another election based around the "lesser of two evils" concept. There's just too many of you for it to be otherwise,...

Darn it, bagoh20! I was thinking "The Professor" as soon as I read this, but I didn't stay up late enough last night to beat you to it!

Two cannibals are sitting down having dinner, when one looks at the other, and says: "What's newt?"

"The professor?"

That's "Professor Roy Hinkley" to you people!

NB - Sherwood Schwartz once said that the opportunity never came up during the run of the show, but if - for some reason - Gilligan had to have a first name, it would have been "Willie."

If enough people quit worshiping at the altar of the TwoPartySystem, then perhaps we'd get better choices to vote for.

Take a gander at the influence 3rd and 4th parties had in regards to banning (and re-legalizing) booze as well as how women were finally allowed to vote....people kept going to alternative political parties until one of the two "main" parties co-opted those issues.

Purplepenguin - Bill Clinton (Hillary too) and his long shadow are the result of a third-party candidate. Be careful what you wish for.

Q: Why can't cannibals eat clowns???

A: They taste funny.

He uses the cannibal metaphor twice. Later in the phone call...

"The idea that I would be the excuse to cannibalize the majority is so sickening I couldn't risk it."

Makes me want to see the whole conversation in context.

Are you still upset that Palin bailed on you?

Poor baby!

If Perot had not existed and Bush the Elder had won the election, we'd still be deep in the exact same pile of manure we're in now.

If 'ifs and but' were cherries and nuts...

You could be right, you didn't say anything about liberals not being in your picture.

The two-party system is a logical result of a winnter-take-all voting system. It doesn't have to be these two parties, of course, but rationally we would expect mainly two only.

Freder Frederson,

"Still upset"? You're trippin' - I've never said a word about it.

Reset the meds, man,...

The two party system is not the problem, and the lesser of two evils would be the perception of some even if the atheist Jesus came down on a flashing unicorn. There is simply one problem: your fellow citizens are easily fooled - especially the smart ones.

It's worth noting that Speaker of the House is the Congressional office with real power and authority. If the House is cannibals, the Senate is zombie cannibals.
