"Throughout the standoff, there was talk of little else in southeastern Alabama, a mostly rural region called the Wiregrass."

"Over lunch at restaurants and even at a Super Bowl party in nearby Ozark, conversations would not roam far before returning to whether that little boy had gotten out yet and what that crazy man must be thinking."

So sad but as reported: "The sounds of conservative talk radio filled his home and fed his anti-government attitudes, locals said." The right wing "skeeter" talk 24/7 is pernicious to so many.

That's awful R/V.

Why are you doing the gratuitous asshole bit over this?

Sometimes, you just don't have any fucking sense.

That was the dumbest, most vile comment you've produced yet, to my knowledge, R/V.

Congratulations.

I am surprised he didn't kill the boy. Thank God the boy survived.

All that community was doing was praying!

A miracle everything turned out all right.

And, of course, roesch shows he's the pernicious one by buying the Gray Lady's propaganda.

@KL,

I'm not. Not after that many days, especially since he seem to have allowed toys, food, and medication for the boy to be dropped in. I think the boy was a pawn on a scenario that rapidly imploded on Dykes.

I suspect that the stress was taking a toll on his rather fragile psyche, and, he, too, may have been out of meds. I bet by the end he was just so incoherent & ranting that the cops had no idea of what he was going to do next.

Either that, or the fed-up cops had just worked out a good plan to end the stand-off, executed it, and Dykes was collateral damage.

""Over lunch at restaurants and even at a Super Bowl party in nearby Ozark,I knew the other clerks and young bond-salesmen by their first names, and lunched with them in dark, crowded restaurants on little pig sausages and mashed potatoes and coffee."

Everything is Gatsby Day.

Can you imagine how awful it must have been for that poor child to have two flash grenades explode in close quarters like that? And then to witness Sykes getting shot?

Not the makings of pleasant childhood memories from the sunny South, that's for sure.

Better than being murdered by that psycho.

So, this is what wiregrass looks like!

I grew up surrounded by the stuff and never new that's what it was called.

Sorry ST but of late the comments on this blog have too often become gratuitous crap reflecting the knee jerk right wing babble, although since the election, I see you have risen about that.

roesch, of course is emblematic of the knee jerk Left wing babble

Wonder who this guy was listening to? My guess is Boortz and Savage for sure, and probably Limbaugh.

edutcher said...

Boortz just retired.

Have to find someone else to hate.

And blame.

Most people on the left have gone from bitter to smug over the past few years. Roach has gone the other way for some reason.
