"It's a time for boldness and action. The time is now. Stand with me, stand together for liberty."

Watch Rand Paul's CPAC speech here.

The reference near the beginning to William Lloyd Garrison interested me, because my great-grandfather was an associate of Garrison's, and I've always been proud to be descended from an Abolitionist. But the fact is that the Abolitionists didn't free the slaves. I doubt that there was any real prospect that Abolition would have succeeded. It was the Secessionists who who started the process that led to the end of slavery in this country.

I find Rand Paul a very appealing political figure, because of his strong and eloquent support of the principles of freedom. But the question remains, can he convince a majority of American voters that these principles can be applied and can work in the complicated world in which we live?

Or is he Garrison, when we need a Lincoln?

Hm all these guys have a lot of 'splaining to do, (Lucy!) to sell me on being POTUS.

I've been burned before.

Unlike the lefty haints here and their kool aid drinking support of Obama of the Empty Suit and a failed Democrat policy agenda, I see no corresponding love affair from the righties here to any one guy in the GOP.

I am a Ted Cruz guy. His biggest single attribute is that McCain hates him. As does DiFi. And nearly all members of the Senate clubhouse. Probably the best debater in my memory.

Rand is my second choice.
