"Blogger hired to defend Redskins tweets his resignation."

"Without being specific, he said “political attacks” against him since he took the job had turned personal and that he didn’t want to be a 'distraction to the team.'"
[Ben] Tribbett, 34, is a Virginia political aide by profession. He got his start in Virginia politics by working on the 2001 House of Delegates campaign for Virginia State Sen. Chap Petersen (D-Fairfax City), one of the legislators behind the recently formed “Redskins Pride” caucus. Tribbett also wrote the progressive political blog “Not Larry Sabato.”

He broke the story of Redskins executive Bruce Allen’s brother, former Virgina senator George Allen, referring to a volunteer for the campaign of his opponent as a “macaca” in 2006. The slur helped lead to Allen’s defeat.
Fascinating! The progressive politico who wrecked George Allen — who used to be big — by catching him using (what seemed to be) a racial slur took a job defending (what seems to be) a racial slur and then.... well, exactly what happened? More details, please.

What an absolute douche moron. I realize he's a paid whore, taking money from whomever is willing to pay him to do whatever, and maybe comparing him to whores is not fair to whores who actually do some good for society, but the thing here is did he not at some point realize that (a) he made his mark helping take down Allen over the "macaca" comment, (b) he would be going to work defending an NFL team that has been in the press a lot lately trying to defend their use of "Redskin", and (c) people might wonder about the discrepency?

Of course, anything embarrassing Dan Snyder is good news, and anything embarrassing a leftist hack is also good news, so this one is a win-win.

Not that George Allen himself deserves any defending--his "macaca" crack was an unforced error, but also bizarre--who even uses an obscure expression like that? But there's also something unseemly about the sort of "journalists" who basically go around trying to instigate gaffes and publicize gotcha moments rather than critically analyze the candidate in question. Same goes for Jimmy Carter's worthless douche grandson.

The tribe had spoken. Mr. Tribbett accepted his penance. He can return to the tribe, but must carry the rock of shame behind him until further review.

The irony is increased by the fact that neither is a racist slur.

The generic white man is racist. The generic "redskin" was also racist. Taxonomy is racist. Racism is racist.

Mature people ought not to go to pieces when someone else tries to catch them in a "gotcha" for using a supposed racist term like Macaca or Canuck. Edmund Muskie saw his presidential bid derailed for having said Canuck. When I was in the Navy and had occasion to fly with Canadian flight crews, they called themselves Canucks, as do some famous Canadian sports teams.

When a public figure is accused by the self-righteous thought police he ought not to grovel for forgiveness but dismiss such people as soiled-underwear-wearing-basement-dwellers who need to get a life.

Tribbett is concerned about only one color. That would be green.
