"Hey! Somebody's from down south!"/"You’re right, I’m from down south. And I’m your MOTHER."

"This was not planned. She called in on the normal line."

a great moment in TV.

I always wonder how many times James Carville sleeps on the couch after a joint appearance :)

Good shot Mom. Real life is more interesting than fiction.

I know a wonderful silver haired lady who is a life long southern Democrat and served as a respected State Department Head chosen by Governor Zell Miller.

Anyway she visits her son's family living in in the panhandle of Florida every Christmas. The son is a genuine Tea Party conservative who rants about the evil Dems. She finally had enough and told him she was leaving and would not return until he could be civil around his lifetime Democrat to the core political mother. She got up and left for Atlanta.

His wife apologized profusely since the son and her needed the rather large gifts they got every year from her.I was proud of her.

Democrats were once the only government we had here and some good men and women were served in State government. And Zell Miller became Governor but remained a US Marine for life.

I would love for an expert in the field to comment on all the micro-expressions that played across their faces when the boys realized the caller was Mom. When life surprises, what we were like when we were eight years old is revealed.

Good for her!

Great stuff. Our large family learned long ago that it was futile to argue politics at family gatherings so we simply stopped discussing politics. Unsurprisingly, it is the liberal members who still have the occasional incontinent outburst.

FYI

It used to be a solid unwritten rule among Army Officers. Any discussion of Politics or Religion was off limits and abusers could expect to be counseled by their boss on professional values...

I just laughed harder than I've laughed all week.

"Oh God, it's Mom."

HAHAAA!!

Ha!

We don't discuss politics on holidays. No need for everyone to tick each other off for no reason.

I did have an extended relative buy one son a dinosaur shirt with how long ago in the past that type of dinosaur is thought to have lived. When I opened it, he laughed like it was a joke. "Great shirt. I don't get the joke though. Why are you laughing?"
"Did you see the date?"
"Yes, why is it funny? Is it wrong? I'm not up on dinosaur facts."
"No! Because evolution."
"What?"
"You're conservative! You guys don't believe in evolution."
"Yes, I do. What are you talking about?"
"Oh, no! You have to choose!"

I told him that I didn't think he knew many conservatives because I'd never met one who didn't believe in evolution. (Years later I found out from a Pew survey that I'd been wrong about not knowing any young Earth creationists. I'd incorrectly assumed that that position was rare.)

I loved it; watched this morning and just laughed. Obviously they care about each other, just have different opinions, strong opinions.
The "Oh God! it's Mom!" moment was priceless.
Anyone who wants to see the segment can go to c-span.org and play it in its entirety. And it is well worth it.

I don't know any "young earth creationists" either. And one survey doesn't prove a great deal since results can be manipulated by the way questions are asked:

http://ncse.com/blog/2013/11/just-how-many-young-earth-creationists-are-there-us-0015164

For more evidence that the number of true young-earthers is fairly small, consider another question from the survey run by the National Science Board since the early ’80s. In that survey, about 80% consistently agree “The continents on which we live have been moving their locations for millions of years and will continue to move in the future.” Ten percent say they don’t know, leaving only about 10% rejecting continental drift over millions of years. Though young-earth creationists often latch onto continental drift as a sudden process during Noah’s flood (as a way to explain how animals could get from the Ark to separate continents), they certainly don’t think the continents moved over millions of years. This question puts a cap of about 10% on the number of committed young-earth creationists, lower even than what Bishop found. More people in the NSB science literacy survey didn’t know that the father’s genes determine the sex of a baby, thought all radioactivity came from human activities, or disagreed that the earth goes around the sun.

In short, then, the hard core of young-earth creationists represents at most one in ten Americans—maybe about 31 million people—with another quarter favoring creationism but not necessarily committed to a young earth.

I find it a typical Leftwing conceit that all non-Leftists, especially if one confesses to attending church, can be dismissed as "anti-Science".

IOW, it is a SHUT UP tactic.

You mean Zell Miller the democrat who supported George W. Bush and republican policies? The same Zell Miller who was a keynote speaker at the 2004 Republican convention. and described the contemporary democrat party platform as "Secular socialism, heavy taxes, big spending, weak defense, limitless lawsuits and heavy regulation". That Zell Miller? Yeah, that Zell Miller. But to be fair, he also said Jimmy Carter "brought honesty and decency and integrity to public service", so his judgment and discernment is clearly not impeccable.

That was classic.

My Mom can relate.
